I am dedicated to listening to and working with Brentwood residents to ensure our city remains on the right track. Growing up with Regina Smithson as my mother, I learned from the best—she knew collaborating and communicating with residents is what makes Brentwood exceptional.
This is my favorite photo of my mother and me at my Brentwood High School graduation. It was taken around the time Regina began her role on the City of Brentwood Commission. It also marks the moment I first decided to get involved in a cause I deeply cared about. When I learned that the proposed widening of Murray Lane would lead to the removal of the treeline and historic stone wall, my heart broke. Determined to make a difference, I helped start a petition to preserve them. This also became one of many legacy actions within Regina’s lasting contributions to the City of Brentwood.
One of the biggest differences between myself and two of my incumbent opponents is my commitment to maintaining a strong Unassigned Fund Balance—also called the “Rainy Day Fund”—This financial responsibility is a key factor in Brentwood’s continued AAA Bond rating.
Another difference I believe in transparency, fairness, and public service free from cronyism. Every resident deserves respect, whether they voted for me or not. I stand by these commitments...this is how we keep Brentwood on the right track.
With your vote, we can uphold the values that make Brentwood an exceptional place to live.

When introducing herself, Kimberly Smithson Gawrys proudly shares her greatest roles—wife to Steve since 1990, mom of four incredible children (Trot, 30, married to Hannah; Sarah-Jane, 27; Zade, 20; and JT, 19), and grandmother to three amazing grandchildren. Additionally, Steve & Kim were foster parents to five children.
Born and raised in Brentwood, Kim witnessed firsthand the power of community service, inspired by her parents, especially her mother, Regina Smithson. Regina’s deep dedication to volunteer work, service on city boards, and tenure as both Brentwood City Commissioner and Mayor shaped Kim’s own passion for civic engagement.
Watching her mother work alongside fellow commissioners and residents, Kim developed a strong appreciation for fiscal responsibility, public safety, business collaboration, and, most importantly, listening to and advocating for the concerns of residents.
Beyond her professional and volunteer work, Kim has channeled her love for quilting into community service, bringing warmth and appreciation to individuals and families. Her involvement includes:
Kim is also a multi-award-winning quilter, textile historian, and two-time Ironman finisher. However, her greatest pride remains in being a devoted mother and grandmother, continuing a legacy of service, dedication, and community spirit.
